Remote Pump Operation Based On Water Levels

Municipal water systems can be complex, with multiple pumps, tanks, valves and miles of pipelines. Unfortunately, in many systems water facilities are aging and neglect of water systems is exacting a steep price. Gallons of clean drinking water per day is wasted because of antiquated water systems. A sound water management & control solution needs to address the challenges of water spillage, system repairs and pump management with the help of remote monitoring & control.

Since the main components of the water system were located miles away from each other, a decision needed to be made on how to best connect the system. Based on the local terrain and location of telecom towers, GSM remote control system along with liquid level controller to sense the water level in the tank was proposed to help in the monitoring and remote control of pumps.

Automatic water level controller solution comprises of a transmitter and a receiver unit. The transmitter monitors the level of water in a tank. And keeps informing the receiver at regular intervals. The receiver pump controller, decides whether to keep the pump on or off depending on water level. Once the water tank is empty the transmitter senses and alerts the receiver. The water pump starts with an automatic trigger. The motor continues to run till the time the tank fills up completely. Once the upper tank level is reached the transmitter sends OFF signals to the receiver. This then turns off the motor. And the process is continued. This helped to achieve achieve the water availability goals while reducing their operational costs.
